About me
I have been playing guitar in bands, sonwriting and recording, for over 25 years now. I was a founding member of Belfast rock band No Hot Ashes. During this time No Hot Ashes gigged the circuit in Ireland and UK playing support to acts like, Bonnie Tyler, Magnum, Mama’s Boys and Girlschool among others. No Hot Ashes signed a record deal with GWR who also had the likes of Motorhead, Girlschool and Hawkwind on the roster and we recorded the one and only No Hot Ashes album in 1988 before returning from London to Belfast, Northern Ireland in early 1991.
I then joined Dublin band, Fridays Child (which was really a reformation of No Hot Ashes, as most of the members were ex-NHA) until the band split a year later. After that I joined the final throes of legendary Belfast cover band ‘Clouds’ for a short period until forming Power of Ten in 1992, which continues to this day, now as a two piece band. Essentially this was a cover band formed just ‘to keep the hand in’ as it were. Originally a 4 piece band, Power of Ten lasted in this format for a couple of years before myself and bass player, Paul Boyd, decided to start writing some new material.
We put a recording studio together in Comber, Northern Ireland, and set about learning to use the gear. We recorded a number of tracks and put them together as an EP called ‘Feelin’ Fine’ which was released to a number of publishing companies. This resulted in a few tracks being signed to publishing companies and some being included on various compilation albums around the world (see the main site www.power-of-ten.co.uk for details of the albums and publishers that we can remember).
Since then the Power of Ten thing has grown into a project to include a number of different members and bands, a collective I suppose, including The Collectors, Graffiti and AM:fm.
I have also found time to perform at the Song for Ireland competition (Eurovision Song Contest) on a number of occasions (stop laughing, it’s a serious competition…no really,it is…), provide session guitar for a number of local bands, and I am currently operating a number of Rock Music Schools in the greater Belfast area, under the franchise ‘Clive’s Easylearn Rock Schools’, teaching kids from as young as 7 years old how to play guitar, drums, bass and keyboards with a team of enthusiastic tutors.
Within the next while I have a number of projects I want to either start, continue or finish, including complete an album with The Collectors/AM:fm (Country Rock offering), record some more stuff for the Belfast Giants Ice Hockey team, and do some of my own stuff that doesn’t really fit anywhere else.
So that’s yer lot. If I can think of anything else, I’ll top this up.
Best Regards
Davey Irvine
